Well, today’s a very eleventy day – all sorts of nonsense is supposed to be happening today, portals to heaven (or hell) opening up etc etc all because of mis-attribution of significance to an arbitrary numerical calendaring system – which only really has localised significance (not global as several different calender forms are used). Personally, I’m a bigendian … but that’s another story.

Time’s a Chicken ..
that’s not what she said, but it is what I heard … they are a-changing tho’. After being far too busy to do anything with this site (at work mostly, in my previous role which was stupidly busy but current role is far less stressful), I now feel compelled to at least update it now (and again) for the time being as I don’t really want to disappoint my fans … yeah, both of you …
whilst we’re on the subject of time/space/theoretical physics, I recently watched a good doco series presented by Morgan Freeman ‘Through the Wormhole‘ all about space and time and astronomical physics n shit … it was very interesting, not too dumbed down as the scientists talked about their respective areas of expertise and explained it very well, I only got lost a couple of times – especially the part about our 3 dimensional world being a projection of a holographic 2 dimensional picture from the edges of the whole universe … hmmmm
So a redesign is in the planning stages, an effort to integrate most of the social networking stuff together. Currently I have it set up so that posts to Google+ are fed to Twitter (through manageflitter.com) which then feeds on to Facebook as a linked account. So I would like to add another layer so that posts here feed Google+ and then filter forward, currently there doesn’t seem to be an easy/automated way of doing this, but I’m sure that’ll change as the Google API gets poked and prodded more.
So …
… it’s come to this – we are an accretion and culmination of our history (both personal and global), everywhere we have been has led to this one point, right here, right now … oh, it(the point)’s gone, but here comes another one!
It’s a New Year, new hope and all that, but I’m actually finding that I’ve got less and less time to actually do ‘stuff’ (this blog being a case in point as evidenced by lack of recent posting), but paradoxically possibly/probably actually getting more done … this is perhaps a consequence of GTD ‘implementation’ with a little help from MLO, a process I had been informally developing prior to reading Mr Allen’s book – of which (I agree with Mr Rob), the value lies in actual ‘critical thinking‘, clearing your mind and getting stuff/tasks out of your memory (which is constantly trying to catch up), enabling a better degree of planning and the ability to actually prioritise and Get Things Done, which is difficult for a pedantic procrastinator such as myself.
So my plan here (and plans do change) is to actually concentrate on more thoughts than deeds which I feel has actually been the aim all along … as thoughts are certainly more permanent, pervasive and probably useful to a wider audience than the day to day shit I do do – which may be of personal referential interest in the future and I was hoping for some relative/familial interest, however I feel that it is not actually reaching the preferred target audience and the actual events probably amount to very little in the grand scheme of things. So I may now just concentrate on more interesting current thoughts (and perhaps conversations) and my aim is for the higher (and I hope entertaining) cranial (and perhaps emotional) aspects of life (and love) … but I’m making no promises, for, it seems, many (but not all) are made to be broken.
Always in the front/back of my mind are the more esoteric/metaphysical aspects of life (and love) and what was keeping me awake tonight was the apparent conflict between the more dominant dogmatic religiousness and the more dynamic philosophical stream of consciousness such a Buddhism which I feel more closely aligned to. I was brought up within an (Anglican) Christian environment and seemed to reject it fairly early on as I never really felt comfortable with the whole ‘blind faith’ aspect and felt that I would need a more empirical ‘scientific’ proof of that belief system which was never forthcoming … not to say that Buddhism actually provides any proof as such (other than the (supposedly) reincarnated Dalai Lama etc etc) but it at least encourages debate and discussion which dogma never does.
I really ought to finish things I’ve started … I’m actually more thinking in terms of books, than projects although I’m probably guilty of both, your Honour (less though recently, thanks Dave!). Current unfinished book is ‘The Language of God’ by Richard – who was a ‘Christian Scientist’ (almost a contradiction in terms!) that helped direct the human genome project. The main reason for losing interest was his apparent unwillingness to accept probability, basically discounting the ‘chance’ factor in genetic (and human) development on the basis that the numbers were ‘unlikely’ … I have several real world examples of the adage that ‘just because something hasn’t happened before, doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen in the future’. Anyway, it’s late and the whisky’s run out so I’m off now … stay tuned for more, I’m sure there is some …
You can lead a Horticulture …
So I started a (free, Level 2 Certificate) Horticulture course today through Taratahi but the workshop today was in Tawa Community Centre so I got up at 6:30, shortly after Stinky left for her day at the Wharekaka grindstone, and left an hour later for the drive over the hill. A Southerly had rolled in last night and I’m sure the garden appreciated the soaking, but I didn’t and it was still pretty gusty over the virtually traffic-less twisty turny ‘taka’s but it took just over an hour to get there. I met Misael the Tutor and the others starting too and we spent half a day going through the the first section, Plant Propagation … (more…)
